The Exercise Thresholds App is a tool to learn, practice, and analyze exercise thresholds. Practice your knowledge with a database containing 40 examples and compare your responses with our experts'. You can also upload and analyze your own data, and export the results in a customizable PDF report.

The Exercise Thresholds App was developed as part of the following manuscript:

Keir D.A., Iannetta D., Mattioni Maturana F., Kowalchuck J.M., Murias J.M. Non-invasive exercise thresholds identification: methods, strategies, and an online app. Sports Med 52, 237-255 (2022)

Exam

A new Exam tool is now available as part of the following manuscript:

Trang S., Mattioni Maturana F., Murias J.M., Herbert M.R., Keir D.A. An undergraduate laboratory to study exercise thresholds. Advances in Physiology Education 47:3, 604-614 (2023)

  • Create an exam from a database of more than 60 files.
  • Choose default data format that students should see (breath-by-breath or bin-averaged).
  • Choose the order at which the data will be presented to students (random or same order).
  • Set start and end exam time.
  • Download all the answers in an excel file.

Practice

Select a sample dataset from our database to test your skills. These are ramp-incremental tests that were analyzed by two experienced exercise physiologists. You will have the opportunity to identify the estimated lactate threshold (θ LT ) and respiratory compensation point (RCP) thresholds on your own and then reference your answer against that of our experts'.

We have prepared a set of tools that you can use to identify θ LT and RCP thresholds. These include:

  • Movable lines that are linked in each graph to help identify the estimated lactate threshold and the respiratory compensation point and corroborate selections between plots with different variables.
  • Work with breath-by-breath or bin-averaged data.
  • Remove data from either the beginning or ending of the test.
  • Movable breaking point lines to analyze the relationship of V̇E-V̇O2 and V̇CO2-V̇O2.
  • Use our movable lines in the graph for analyzing the gas exchange threshold and the respiratory compensation point.
  • Adjust axes according to your needs.
  • Turn a graph into full-screen mode.
  • Download results in a customizable PDF report.

Analyze

Here you also have the opportunity to upload your own data. In this way you can:

  • Quickly and easily identify θLT and RCP thresholds from your own data.
  • Easy and interactive way for analyzing V̇O2max.
  • Analyze the exercise thresholds and export the results using all the tools that are also available in the practice tab.
  • Download results in a customizable PDF report.
